Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock will join Frances Padilla, Director of the Small Business Administration's Denver Office, other elected officials, and small business and chamber of commerce officials to tour small businesses at Stanley Marketplace in Aurora later this month for Small Business Saturday November 25th.

Consumers agree that small businesses are critical to the overall economic health of the U.S.  According to Reference USA, there are currently 29.6 million small businesses in the U.S., and these businesses are responsible for three-fifths of net new jobs over the past 20 years.  According to Reference USA, there are currently 15,088 verified businesses in Aurora, and 94% of the businesses in Aurora are small businesses with less than 250 employees.

Founded by American Express, Small Business Saturday is an annual shopping tradition dedicated to supporting small businesses and celebrating communities across the country. The stores will open early and stay open late to accommodate your shopping needs.

Healthy Small Business Award Applications

Governor's Healthy Small Business Award Applications Open Statewide

 

The Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) is accepting applications for the Governor's Healthy Small Business Award for 2017. Applications will be accepted from small businesses with fewer than 500 employees until Friday, December 15, 2017.

The award will honor one small business statewide making great strides supporting the health and wellness of their employees, while simultaneously impacting their business vitality. The award advances the winner's reputation in the community by spotlighting its health and wellness efforts, which can assist in recruiting efforts in a competitive market statewide.

Benefits of the Award:

  1. Governor's proclamation of being the healthiest small business in the state
  2. Press release from the Governor's office sent out to media outlets statewide
  3. Feature story on OEDIT's website (choosecolorado.com) and social media channels
  4. Health and wellness consultations from OEDITs Health and Wellness Strategist

Applicants will be evaluated on the business' health and wellness excellence, community involvement and collaboration, and evaluative outcomes. Final candidates will be evaluated through an on-site interview process by OEDIT. The winner will be recognized publicly at an award event.

 

Applications will be accepted through Friday, December 15th at https://oedit.secure.force.com/oedit/. Small businesses with fewer than 500 employees located within the state of Colorado are eligible to apply for the Governor's Healthy Small Business Award.

This training is over the lunch hour; feel free to bring a snack.

This is an intense four-hour food safety training that provides a three-year certification and meets the food safety training requirement for Colorado Cottage Foods Act established and supported by the Colorado State Dept. of Health & Environment.

Participants learn food safety guidelines and the specifics for operating a small home based cottage food business from a home kitchen. Learn about the most current Colorado Cottage Food Act and get a food safety certificate that applies no matter where you live in Colorado.

The Colorado Cottage Food Act requires "a producer must take a food safety course that includes basic food handling training and is comparable to, or is a course given by, the Colorado state university extension service or a state, county, or district public health agency, and must maintain a status of good standing in accordance with the course requirements, including attending any additional classes if necessary."
